Emmonak is a second class city incorporated February 13, 1964. The population is about 850 and consists of 93.9% Yupik Alaskan Native. Emmonak relies on air and water transportation due to no road connections to the outside. It is located 120 air miles Northwest of Bethel and 490 air miles from Alaska's largest city Anchorage.
Emmonak is considered a hub for three surrounding villages of Alakanuk, Kotlik, and Nunam Iqua. A subregional clinic also serves these communities. Emmonak has an elementary and highschool which has over 230 students altogether. Their are two local grocery stores Anica and Alaska Commerical Co., Family Restaurant, women's shelter, local fish processing plant Kwikpak Fisheries, Emmonak Tribe, Chuloonawick Tribe, Alaska Court System, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Catholic Church, Assembly of God Church, Grant Aviation, Ryan Air, Ravn Air, and state troopers post located in Emmonak.
